CE Smith double U-bolt bolster brackets installed on a boat trailer

Bolster-and-swivel-bracket assemblies are typically mounted upright on a boat trailer's crossmembers. They allow a mounted bunk board, which runs from the front of the trailer to the back, to tilt to accommodate and support boat hulls of different sizes. On kayak trailers, these brackets are mounted to the trailer's frame and support bunk boards that run across the trailer.

Galvanized Steel

Galvanized steel parts are hot-dipped in zinc after being stamped. This creates a coating that is typically 3 mil to 5 mil thick. This thick, all-around coating allows galvanized steel products to provide years of use without rusting or corroding.

AS ALWAYS E-TRAILER IS RIGHT ON EVERY TIME YOU CAN NOT FIND A BETTER PLACE TO TAKE CARE OF ALL YOU TRAILER NEEDS

Bob O.

every thing has been great on all that i ordered from you and your service was fantastic thank you for everything.

by:

Very well made, heavy gauge steel with what appears to be a well done galvanization. Should do well in salt water launches. They are tall enough to give me 15 inches of clearance measuring a straight line across the bunks and drop a plumb line at center to the keel roller. My only gripe is that the supplied bolts for the top swivel bracket are only 3/8 and regular nickel plated grade 5. The holes are clearly 1/2 inch so I put in my own galvanized 1/2 inch bolts with lock washers.

by:

Check the hardware closely. Supplied nuts weren’t the correct thread for the bolts (and weren’t locknuts). Thankfully E-trailer sent the correct hardware package to fix the problem. Set me back 2 weeks but very glad I dry fit all pieces as soon as received.

by:

  • Do Trailer Roller Bunk Brackets like CE10196G-4 Have Weight Capacities
Roller bunk brackets like the CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Mounting Brackets for Bunk Boards # CE10196G-4 do not have listed capacities. I spoke to my contact at CE Smith and he informed that that as long as you are under the capacity for your trailer and the roller bunks that are being attached to the brackets the brackets will be fine.

  • How to Select Bunk Boards for a Pontoon Boat Trailer
The correct size of bunk boards for your pontoon boat trailer is going to vary depending on configuration. Generally speaking, you will want the horizontal bunk boards to reach from the transom edge to the hull. Most people will then run two sets of vertical bunk boards like CE Smith Bunk Style Guide-Ons part # CE27671 in the middle of the trailer to center the boat and then two sets of horizontal bunk boards on each side to support the pontoons. The longest horizontal bunk boards we offer...

The CE Smith Brackets # CE10196G-4 you mentioned do not have a stated weight capacity but as long as you install them properly and use your best judgement with placement and with the bunks you'll be fine with what you are doing. Here's dimension info on the brackets: Dimensions of bolster bracket: 15" tall x 4" wide Mounting slot dimensions: 3" long x 1/2" wide Horizontal spacing between slots: 1-3/4" Dimensions of swivel bracket: 3-1/2" long x 1-1/2" wide x 2" tall Flange mounting hole...

Thank for the photos of your boat trailer! The CE Smith Double U-Bolt Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies # CE10196G-4 that you referenced are a great option to replace the existing bunk system on your boat trailer. These bolster brackets and swivel bracket are both made from 7-Gauge, galvanized steel. The # CE10196G-4 have an overall height of 16-1/4 inches. These brackets are available in different heights options to help accommodate the shape of the boat's hull. The four bracket...

  • Recommended Hardware to Lift Boat Bunks on Trailer
I would also assume you're correct. If you have regular bunks on your trailer, you can just use taller bolster brackets and reattach the boards to raise them. For a 16 1/4" tall bracket, you can use the CE Smith Double U-Bolt Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies # CE10196G-4, for a 13" tall bracket you can use # CE10002G-4, and for an 11" tall bracket you can use # CE10001G-4. From here, you can just reuse the u-bolts that you currently have, or you can use the CE Smith U-Bolts # CE15283GA-4.

  • Recommended Bunk Boards For Boat Trailer To Support 16-Ft Deep V Boat
The weight of the boat on your trailer should be shared by the keel rollers and the bunks. All of the weight should not be placed on either the rollers or the bunks. It sounds like you have bunks that are just too short for your boat size. I recommend adding additional bunks like part # CE27800 to your trailer so all of the weight does not fall on the keel rollers. To support the bunks I also recommend the bracket assemblies like part # CE10196G-4.

  • Compatibility of Boat Trailer Roller Bunks with CE Smith Swivel Bracket Assemblies # CE10196G-4
If your Dutton Lainson roller bunks have a flat bottom surface like part # DL21741 then you can mount them directly to the CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies # CE10196G-4 as shown in the linked photo. These are the tallest ones we offer. If the bunks have an open channel in the bottom, like part # DL21755, then you will want to first mount the bunks to a 2 x 4 bunk board which will fit into that channel and then mount that to the brackets.

  • Compatibility of Boat Trailer with Boston Whaler Sport
Your trailer sounds like it will work just fine based on the dimensions and weight you gave. I simply recommend putting the bunks up as high as possible for your initial loading onto the trailer because the underside of your boat from my research has a deep groove on each side where those bunks sit. Make sure the bunks are in the depth of the groove and the outside bottom of the groove is either over the fender or inside it. If you need taller supports you can adjust the height. We...

  • Brake Winch Recommendation for Trailer with Roller Bunks to Feed Boat Out Onto Water
Your best option would be a winch that can be fed out when you are launching your boat so that you don't have to just let it free wheel and take off in to the water by itself. For that the Fulton hand winch part # F142430 that has a hand brake would be a fantastic option. It would let you feed the winch out as needed in a controlled manner and won't require you to swap out the rollers of your trailer for bunks. For a cable you'd then want the part # FWC7500100.

  • Replacement Rollers For Wobble Rollers To Eliminate Marks and Gauging In The Boat Hull
Since your main concern is the marks on the hull of your boat I recommend going to the Yates TPR Ribbed Wobble Roller. It is stronger and more durable than traditional rubber while being softer and more pliant than polyurethane. You will need to find your shaft size to find the correct 5" Rollers. • Tallest Bunk Bolster Brackets to Clear Trailer Tires on a Boat Trailer
Your best option is going to be bolster bracket set # CE10196G-4 which is a quantity of 4 so if you wanted 6 you would need 2 sets and you would have a couple of spares should they be needed. These are 16-1/4 inches long with some adjustability due to the slotted holes. For u-bolts use # CE15283GA-8 (which is a set of 8 because each needs 2 u-bolts).

The CE Smith Bolster Bracket # CE10052-32G features a span of just barely over 15 inches so it might be a bit small to comfortably support the 16 inch tubes on your Zodiac Inflatable Boat. You will likely be better off using a set of standard brackets like the CE Smith # CE10196G-4 that feature a swiveling design to let you tilt the bunk boards at an angle for the pontoon. • Maximum Height of Bunks On CE Smith Multi Sport Plus Boat and Kayak Trailer
The taller of the two sets of bolster brackets that come with the # CE48870 are 12" tall. With the swivel bracket on top that is going to put you at 13". Add the height of the board on there which is 2" so that puts you up to 15". Now considering the crossmember and the slight bit of the bolster bracket that hangs down you'll be at around 11-1/2" just shy of the 12" you're looking for.
